Upload a PDF, draw rectangles over sensitive areas on each page, and apply the redactions. You can also enter areas using percentage coordinates. JiffyKit builds a new PDF from the redacted page images, without copying the original text layer, attachments, metadata or interactive fields. Processing happens in your browser. Supports one PDF up to 50 MB and 50 pages.
Questions about PDF redaction
- Can someone remove the black boxes to recover the content?
- The boxes are painted into the page pixels before a new PDF is created. The original text and image objects are not included in the downloaded file. Only areas you mark are blacked out; review all pages and cover the complete sensitive content before sharing.
- Will the remaining text stay selectable?
- No. Every page becomes an image at 144 or 216 dpi. Text is no longer selectable or searchable, and links, form fields, comments, bookmarks and existing digital signatures are not preserved.
- Does this work with scans and rotated pages?
- You can mark visible areas in scans, images and rotated pages. Preview each page and the exported result to confirm its appearance. XFA forms are not supported. For a password-protected document, use Unlock PDF first.
- Does JiffyKit upload my PDF?
- No. Your PDF and redaction marks are processed locally in your browser. The original file is unchanged. Download the redacted copy when you are ready.
